From the Desk of the Pastor. . .
I can't tell you how amazing this parish has been for me. This past week I celebrated six years of priesthood and four of those years have been at St. Patrick's. I've often said that I feel bad that St. Pat's is almost a place that will embrace many of my mistakes on the road of life as I learn to grow and become a pastor. However, this past week's event was not a mistake. Shantytown was one of those events that I will always remember and consider a success, all because of you.
With the threat of severe storms on the horizons, the mosquitoes of the great plague, and hourly church bells, nearly 40 people braved the elements of Shantytown to bring awareness to the plight of homelessness in our midst. With periodical talks by the recipients of our donations collected, prayer services and the viewing of The Pursuit of Happyness, the members of Shantytown increased their own awareness of the true difficulties of homelessness. This is not a one time event . . . homelessness happens year round! So until St. Patrick's next Shantytown, let's do all we can alleviate the burdens of ours, especially the homeless.
When I began here at St. Pat's, a new ministerial team of Roger Dumont, Donna Delahanty, and myself were designated. It's with honor that we as a parish community wish Donna luck and prayers on her new endeavor. She will be leaving us here at St. Pat's to make her way over to St. Anne's in Hampstead, taking on a position as Pastoral Associate. She looks forward to her new assignment with joy but with sadness for leaving St. Pat's. Donna has been so instrumental in the Religious Education Program and has been by my side the whole way and has supported me 100% of the time, keeping the good name of St. Pat's in reverence. Our prayers are with you Donna and all the success you long for in life . . . May the Lord be a lamp to your feet and a light for your path.
